A household nutrition initiative helping families grow diverse vegetables and herbs, improving dietary diversity, reducing expenses, and supporting income through home-based nutrition gardens in Jamui.
Nutrition Garden Initiative – Jamui (2020-2021)
Program Overview
The Nutrition Garden Initiative promotes household-level food security and dietary diversity by encouraging families to grow vegetables, tubers, leafy greens, and medicinal herbs in their backyards. Better World Foundation supported 400 families across Sikandra and Khaira blocks of Jamui, enabling them to establish home-based nutrition gardens.
These gardens strengthen nutritional intake, reduce household expenses, and generate supplemental income through the sale of surplus produce. Designed especially for families of 5-6 members, the initiative integrates nutrition, livelihood support, and traditional herbal knowledge to improve community health and resilience.
