Nature-Based Solutions for Food Security & Community Well-Being
Community Orchard Initiative – Jamui (2020)

Program Overview
The Community Orchard Initiative in Jamui was launched as a nature-based solution to strengthen local food security, restore biodiversity, and improve community access to fresh, nutritious produce. Community orchards bring together a diverse mix of fruit trees, nut-bearing species, and berry shrubs established on shared public land—creating vibrant green spaces that benefit entire villages.
Better World Foundation supported the establishment of these orchards across Khaira and Sikandra blocks, directly impacting 100 families. These shared orchards not only provide families with healthy, chemical-free fruits but also promote environmental stewardship, community ownership, and sustainable land use.
By integrating nutrition, ecology, and rural livelihood support, the initiative offers a resilient model for improving health, strengthening community bonds, and enhancing the quality of life in rural Jamui.
