Strengthening Organic Farming & Soil Health Through Community-Led Composting
Vermi Compost Production – 300 Farmers, Jamui (2020)

Program Overview
The Vermi Compost initiative in Jamui was launched to promote eco-friendly, organic farming practices and improve soil health across rural communities. Vermi composting—an environmentally sustainable process using earthworms to convert organic waste into nutrient-rich humus—enhances soil fertility physically, chemically, and biologically, resulting in healthier crops and improved farm productivity.
To support this transition toward sustainable agriculture, Better World Foundation provided comprehensive training and on-ground assistance to 300 farmers from the villages of Khaira and Sikandra in Jamui district. Farmers were trained in constructing vermi beds, managing organic waste, monitoring compost quality, and integrating vermicompost into their farming systems.
The initiative has strengthened the adoption of natural cultivation practices, reduced dependence on chemical fertilizers, and enabled farmers to achieve better yields and higher returns—while contributing to long-term soil regeneration and environmental sustainability.
