When the Health on Wheels van first reached Kalamati, the team found a silent two-month-old infant — too weak to cry, too tired to respond. Karan Munda had been surviving on packaged milk; his mother struggled with mental health concerns, and access to healthcare felt out of reach.

Repeated counselling visits helped the family trust the process. Karan was admitted to the Malnutrition Treatment Centre (MTC), where 15 days of careful care brought a remarkable change — he gained 1.6 kg, began responding to touch, and finally, began to laugh.

His grandmother now smiles proudly, knowing what once felt like despair has turned into resilience.
Karan’s recovery is a reminder that timely intervention, empathy, and family counselling can rewrite a child’s story.
