Khakhra Production Unit

Problem Statement

Role of women in society has been going through a paradigm shift over the past few decades. However, women participation in the workforce in India is abysmally low, reflecting the gender discrimination prevalent in rural India.

Our Approach for Solution

Feminist theory has established it well that providing economic opportunities to women is one of the best ways for women empowerment.

As part of our association with the corporate social responsibility arm of JM Financials, BWF has supported 25+ women from neighboring villages in and around Jamui to establish Khakhra Production units. Khakra is a wheat flour based crispy snack originally from Gujarat. They have come together to make the Vardhaman Mahavir Khakra Udyog Samiti. A non-conventional khakhra manufacturing venture has been in operation and has been able to impart skills to multiple women around Jamui, Bihar and thereby operationalizing a khakhra manufacturing unit sustainably for the past 4 years.
